I Will Not Drink Juice From A Box!
The Rimu Maths group during their statistical investigation discovered that there are lots of children who bring tetra pak juice boxes to school. This is a problem because these type of containers cannot be recycled. We created these videos to encourage children to try and reduce the number of juice boxes at school.
Coughs and Sneezes Spread Diseases!
The Totara Maths group during their statistical investigation discovered that there are lots of children who come to school feeling unwell causing sickness and disease to spread. We created a public service announcement to encourage children to stop spreading these germs at school. We were inspired by these videos from the 1940's!
Walking to School is Cool
The Kauri Maths group during their statistical investigation discovered that there are lots of children who do not walk to school. We created these music videos to encourage students at Halsey Drive to change their ways and walk to school.

Statistics
WALT - Define Statistics.
WALT: Define Statistics
Statistics is the gathering
of and display of information on graphs such as bar graphs, line graphs, pie
graphs and pictographs. We can use this information
to answer questions and make changes.
One use of statistics is to
gather information and use this information to make a positive change. For
example the Wastewise team collected data about how much rubbish went to
landfill. The Wastewise team then used this information to teach the children
at Halsey Drive School about reducing their littering.

Ansh has been carrying out his own maths investigation. He compared the cost of shopping using information provided by our twitter friends Tollgate4A in Eastbourne, England.
All Prices are in New Zealand Dollars.
Exchange rate calculated at 2.26 (£1 = $2.26)
Overall
we pay more for these items in Auckland, New Zealand compared to Eastbourne in
the UK.

Rounding and Compensating
Here is Ansh explaining the strategy of rounding and compensating when multiplying.
Measurement
In Maths we are now studying measurement. We will be studying digital and analogue times, timetables, calendars, units of measurement and more. We discussed how measurement plays an important role in all different areas of life. Below are some of our ideas.

Tangrams
In Geometry today we learned about tangrams. The tangram is a puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes, called tans, which are put together to form shapes. Here is an example of some of the shapes we made today, Do you know what they all are?
