Bubbles

Room 5 have been learning to use language features (such as similes) in our writing. Here are some descriptions of bubbles. Enjoy

Priscilla
The room was like a glasshouse. When the bubbles came out it was like they were royal, and everybody had focussed on them. The bubbles looked like magical orbs, they had lots of reflections so they looked like the people that were staring at them were in the orbs. The bubbles were moving so gracefully and slow I didn't know if they were sad or happy.

Torres
POP!! a bubble landed on my leg. The other bubbles floated quietly around the room. The bubbles looked like gentle glass balls tumbling down. Then a triple bubble landed on my head and I was really excited that I just wanted to touch them. They moved liked kites gliding in the air.

Kalani
“POP, POP!” the bubbles popped. The bubbles floated around the classroom they looked like sphered see through rainbows. They just crashed into the classroom from out of nowhere! Some of the bubbles looked as tiny as floating ants, and some were as big as the bottom of a coffee cup. Some got blown by the wind and did loops like a roller coaster, some looked like big bouncy balls.

Aaliya
‘Pop, pop’, went the bubbles. The bubbles were clear as glass and clear as crystals, soft as silk and were stuck like atoms. They looked like marbles in the air. They were colourful as a rainbow. They were drifting and floating slow and steady like parachutes landing on the mat.

George's Marvellous Medicine

This week we have been working on describing two characters from George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. We created describe maps on Google Drawings then used our thinking map to write a description of either George or Grandma. Enjoy.

George by Sherlyn

George from George’s Marvellous Medicine is brave because he wasn't afraid to make the medicine. However George was also naughty because he made the medicine even though he knew something would probably go wrong. I think George was creative because he created the magic medicine from lots of strange ingredients. He was also afraid when Mr Kranky (his dad) said that they would open a supermarket, selling his medicine. In the story George has blond hair, he wears a red T-shirt and jeans. George is a kind boy but his grandma doesn't think so. His grandma thinks he is a lazy old brat and he is growing too fast. He doesn't have any friends because he lives in the countryside where there are not many children and his school is far away. George’s dad has his own farm with lots of animals. In the story he made a marvellous medicine that made his grandma and his dad’s chicken grow. When his dad heard about the medicine he made all his animals grow. I think George was right to make the medicine because his grandma was really mean to him. I would never want a grandma like George’s grandma because she’s a smelly old hag and doesn't listen to anything George says. My grandma’s way nicer than George’s grandma and I am glad that my grandma is nice to me.

Grandma by Samarah

Grandma from George’s Marvellous Medicine is a wicked person who has a pointy nose and a wretched face. She is rotten and has never smiled. Grandma is a mean woman with a wrinkly face. She has pale brown teeth with a puckered mouth that looks like a dogs bottom.
She was super, super tiny so she needed a walking stick and a stool. She was grouchy and beastly and looked like a witch. She didn’t need to do any work or anything, George and George’s mum and dad had to do everything for her and that old wicked woman did nothing, she didn’t even move a muscle.
She sounded like an old witch with a croaky voice like a frog. She had a mind but it was a weird mind. Grandma never liked George she hated him. She was a wicked witch the only thing she needed was her medicine.
Grandma was a selfish character and an old little maggot the only thing she did was order people around. She did nothing else but be boosy so I think she deserved everything that happened to her.

Tamari

Mrs Davies-Crook travelled to Africa during the Christmas holidays. While she was there she arranged to meet Tamari, our school’s World Vision sponsor child who lives in Rwanda.

Recounts

Here are some examples of our fabulous recount writing. Enjoy

Christmas Disaster by Skye

It was that lovely Christmas day when everything is supposed to be perfect.  Well let’s get real. My Christmas wasn’t so perfect.  I had opened all my presents “YAY” now that was the good bit.  I got a Nerf rebel gun and a Nerf rebel bow, 2 splendid presents.  This was for the war. Now the bad part, where everything goes wrong.

So we went to an ENORMOUS field and had a war.  My dad had the bow and I had the gun.  Behind a tree there was a long pointy nail waiting for me to go and put my long thin foot on it.

As I went behind the tree stuck to a piece of wood, the long sharp nail was lurking BABAM “ARGHHHHH!!” that naughty nail made me step on it.  “Curse you nail!”.  The pain was like somebody stabbing you.  When we got to the A and E a girl with humongous eyes stared at me, I just thought to myself what are you looking at.  After the A and E I had to lie on the couch ALL DAY! the rest of the day my poor dad had to tolerate me saying “Can you kill me please? Death has got to be better than this”.  To be honest I think that Christmas day was probably not the best day to step on a nail.

At Omaha Beach by Chantelle

I heard a crack as I walked along the shimmering shore of Omaha beach. I looked down and saw a lonely crab that had a broken a leg.  I thought it was a poor little thing so I carried it back to the salty sea.  But as I was going to put it down I heard a shout from my family. They were looking down at hundreds of sharp starfish scattered along the shore.

Then I gazed into the sea and saw lots of brown sucker fish and I realised why this beach was in the top ten, because it’s sand was pearly white.  So I dropped the crab and it landed with a soft plop in the calm sea.

I ran to my mum who was now playing with my brother at the shimmering seashore and she was also holding my big blue bucket. Just as I was taking my sandy bucket, my mum caught a cross-eyed suckerfish with a pink shell. I filled my huge bucket with water and my mum put the fish in my bucket. I ran back to my snoozing dad and told him to hold it. Suddenly I slipped and face planted but luckily the fish was with my dad.  When I got up my dad laughed at me ‘‘ha ha ha,’’ because my face was covered in sand and I looked like a creature that had just came out of the sea.

My Terrifying Holiday by Ansh

“Aaaagh!!!” I screamed as I slid down the pitch black tunnel.  It was a good thing that my brother was beside me so I could hug him.  This roller coaster was the scariest thing I had ever been on.

Universal Studios Ancient Egypt is super freaky.  At the end of the roller coaster we took out our tiny plastic bags and puked in them but my brother missed the bag and his puke landed on his shirt.  Then we looked in the mirror and saw that our hair was frozen stiff like John Snow.

The second ride we went to was the Transformer ride.  It was gigantic.  There were about forty turns and lots and lots of giant hoops.  It went incredibly fast as well.  I was lucky I had my brother on my side so I could start raging at him for choosing this ride. I was as angry as if he had just ate the whole of my birthday cake.  Soon when the ride ended I begged mum and dad to let me choose our next hotel.  Jokingly they said, “Yes Ansh” so I was happy for a long time until… I looked in my little bag and puked again and again.  What a holiday!

Listen Up

The Avengers have been reading 'Listen Up' by David Hill. In the story a girl is constantly tripping over because she is too busy on her cell phone. After reading the Avengers had to decide whether or not children should have cell phones.

Who do you agree with?

Children should not have cell phones

I agree with this statement because children can strain their eyes by playing games and looking at the screen constantly. However some people might argue that phones are important because children could use them in an emergency but I know that phones are not good for me.

Overall I believe that phones are no good for children because they can rot children’s brains. When they grow up they can get cell phones because they will be able to use their phone sensibly.

Children should not have cell phones

I disagree with this statement because children can contact their parents in emergencies. However some people may argue that cell phones can mess up children’s eyes because the device is too close to them.

Overall I think that children should have cell phones because the apps can help them with their learning as it is a quicker way to get information.
